Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. When she reached nine years old, her family was living in Louisiana which was where she took home the regional talent contest by singing a cover of Patsy Montana's "I Would Like to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart. By 15 Decker resided in Georgia. She had started to write songs, and was making frequent visits to Nashville. To find an agreement, Decker visited music publishing houses and record labels. She was just 17 when she gained the attention of a representative of independent label Big Yellow Dog Records who began selling her tracks to various labels and artists. Decker's demos were passed to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was the head of Island/Def Jam. Reid then was able to sign Decker to a recording contract. Jessie James released her debut album in August of 2009. It was a self-titled album. Jessie James, which featured Wanted as a number one hit on the Top 40 Singles Charts was moderately successful. Decker, who had considered herself to be a traditional country artist in the past was shocked to discover that the album wasn't promoted and produced with a focus on a mainstream audience. Decker was disappointed by two further singles released from the album against the management of the record label in search of more control. Decker then released her second single Boys in the Summer which was more traditional. Decker released her second album under two names: Sweet American Dreams or Daughter of a Gypsy. Mercury put it on hold when the first three singles fell in the country charts. Decker then was let go from the contract.
