Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's family moved to Louisiana when she was nine. Decker then won a regional talent contest with a performance of "I Would Like to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart" by Patsy Montana. The family of Decker moved from Louisiana to Georgia during the summer of 1995. When she started writing songs frequently, she travelled to Nashville and visited music companies and record labels with the hoping to secure a deal. The songs she wrote were offered to record labels and other artists through a Big Yellow Dog Records agent when she was 17. Decker signed a deal to sign a deal with Island/Def Jam after Mercury Records President David Massey passed her demos to L.A. Reid, head of Island/Def Jam. Jessie James, her moniker for her album that she dropped under that name on August 9, 2009 was her own self-titled. Jessie James enjoyed a modest amount of success and Wanted was able to reach the Top 40 on the Singles Charts. Decker always thought of herself as a singer from the country genre however, the album's promotion and production was designed to appeal to an audience that was more popular. After two more singles from the album stiffed Decker struggled with the label's executives to have more control over her music, and the next single Boys in the Summer was a more country-oriented release. Decker launched her sophomore album under two names: Sweet American Dreams or Daughter of a Gypsy. Mercury decided to put it back on the shelf after the first three singles did poorly in the country charts. Decker then was let go from the contract.
